Finding clients

When you are starting a business you naturally want to be able to serve people the way you imagined. You'll have an idea in your mind of all the steps you'll be taking. Once you have completed the basics, you start looking around for clients. Some the basic steps of getting started might include:

  • creating and registering your Business Name,

  • getting an ABN

  • a business bank account, and

  • setting up your social media and putting up regular posts.

  • maybe NDIS Registration as well

But then when you are expecting the phone to ring, or to receive email or enquiries through your social media and there's just the sound of crickets, it can be quite stressful and worrying. Help with finding clients is the most common question I am ask for help with, so be aware that you are not alone. The tricky part is that you can't just go and start looking to 'find' people, they need to find you. Here's some steps below you can take straight away to start attracting your first few clients.

  • Create a marketing plan that maps out what's important to building awareness and interest in your business. The Plan will give you valuable insights you can use in your marketing. It will help create ideas on where to go, who the speak with and what to show or say. Some elements include

    • A success story (or your vision) you can tell about the business that's consistent and compelling

    • Business identity that you are proud of

    • Brochures, Facebook and/or a Website that documents your credibility, and the benefits you offer

    • Research your local market - including your competitors

    • Knowledge of who the key influencers and stakeholders are

    • Sense of clarity about who is your ideal client and why

  • Raise awareness and become known and trusted in all the right circles about what you offer.

  • Engage in the community, give back and build your profile
